Excess & Excess Insurance

CAR HIRE EXCESS

When a hire car is damaged or stolen the driver will have to pay the first portion of the repair or replacement costs. This is called Car Hire Excess.

Your car rental agreement normally includes cover for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP) as standard. However if an excess is applicable you will still be liable for this amount on CDW and TP.

Many of the cars hired via Shop4CarHire are fully inclusive so the excess is set to zero. However this does vary due to the particular vehicle and destination so please check the rental conditions carefully.

Car hire excess can be as high as 500 pounds, which means if you have an accident (or someone hits you and drives off) the excess amount will be charged to you. The standard car hire insurance will only pay what is above the excess figure.

CAR HIRE EXCESS INSURANCE

If the Car Hire Excess is not set to zero you will be offered Car Hire Excess Insurance during the booking process as a chargeable option.

As an alternative, if you plan to travel more than seven days a year it may be more cost effective to take out an annual Car Hire Excess Insurance Policy. This provides separate cover for the following:-

  • Excess Amount
  • Tyres
  • Windscreen
  • Glass
  • Roof
  • Undercarriage
